The consequence, of course, is that your "Bounty Point" decreases, that is if you have any. Now players can run from combat situations. Square recently released new information about the battle system. Also, you can hide in the environments and duck the enemy's attacks. Some of the battle elements that assist you are interactive backgrounds, such as explosive electrical circuits and perhaps dangerous barrels filled with flammable material.

Both your character and the enemy can move and attack at the same time. The battle scenes take place in realtime and on the same screen, unlike the first game where the screen changed during battles. In fact, in early October Square actually said the game is a cinematic advanture game, further closing the gap between it and a certain adventure horror game.

Square's cinematic lens is targeting Parasite Eve II in the light of an adventure game. The heroine from the first game, Aya Brea, now a member of the FBI's anti-mitochondria team (MIST - Mitochondria Investigation and Supression Team), steps out from a car and surveys the scene. Transmissions from the SWAT team that entered the building are suddenly cut off. In a downtown Los Angeles skyscraper known as the Acropolis Tower, a number of mitochondria creatures have re-appeared. Three years have passed since the mitochondria incident in New York. With more focus on adventure and a feel and look a lot like the Resident Evil series, Parasite Eve II looks to succeed where its predecessor failed ¿ we hope. Awkward gameplay and a mixture of elements that didn't quite mesh made up the game's still unique sensibility, despite Square's attempt to lead RPGs into the realm of the "cinema." Previous Information One of Square's most turbulently discussed RPGs in the last few years was Parasite Eve, a "cinematic RPG" that left gamers feeling either invigorated or downcast. The game is certainly visually accomplished - as this new E3 media attests, the pre-rendered backdrops are up to Square's usual standards of quality, and the polygonal character models are much more refined than those in the first game. We'll see how well it does when it comes to America, the West being a little more attuned to the flavor of the series.

E3 Update This sequel to the rather experimental Cinematic RPG didn't quite set Japan on fire, perhaps because it was simply eclipsed by the rest of Square's recent games.
